Public Safety Facility

A new public safety building is being proposed for the town of Wrightsville Beach. It could cost more than $6 million. Do you think the town needs a new building for the fire and/or police department?
The Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen are holding a public meeting on the issue tonight at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.

Yes, we need new facilities for our Police and Fire Departments. I'd like to see Alderman Cignotti's ideas about financing with a Real Estate Transfer Tax get more attention. Some economies could be realized by a combination of remodeling and new construction. Hopefully the new facility will contain space for our own Dispatchers so that we can continue to get "home town" service. Yes, we need new quarters for Police and Fire.

The transfer tax proposed by Alderman Cignotti IS NOT FAIR to single homeowners as a means of financing anything having to do with Wrightsville Beach. WHY penalize people for owning and then penalize them again when they leave (perhaps because they no longer wish to be taxed to death to own here)? Single homeowners have already paid their dues over and over again, and higher taxes coming. If more police, firefighters, service people and better housing to accomodate them is needed because there are more and more people coming over the bridge, it's time to figure out a way to garner revenue from ALL who use the beach.
