Bus Service

WAVE has proposed bus service to Wrightsville Beach. What do you think about that? Is it a good idea?

Public transportation is always a good idea--it reduces emissions, traffic, and our petrol (gasoline) consumption. It is also cheaper for the rider. I am a recent graduate of UNCW, where students ride for free, and have always wondered why there was no public transportation to America's number one rated beach.

It has always made little sense to me to have such a beautiful place in our City's back yard without doing every thing we can to facilitate our community easy access to the grounds. To make matters worse, traffic and parking are horrible during the summer, and parking fees are exorbitant (especially from the perspective of a college student).

I think one of the most practical solutions to the rising cost of gas, our countries dependence on it in the Middle East, and the problem of emissions influencing global warming is public transportation. It is an issue I took as a hobby to research while completing my studies at UNCW. I was involved in many student organizations, and had many a chance to discuss this issue with my fellow peers. I can say from my non-scientific, personal surveys that the vast majority of my peers would be in favor of a bus route to the beach.
