Wrightsville Beach dispatchers

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen will discuss eliminating the local dispatcher system and instead rely on New Hanover County's e-911 system.
Town Manager Bob Simpson has stated that the move could save the town more than $150,000 each year.
What do you think about this?

Please, please don't do it! Surely there is another way to save money instead of putting these hard working dispatchers out of work!

what difference does it make....the alderman are going to do whatever they want regardless of what you people say or do!

These desk officers are more committed to to the safety of this town and their officers than any people I have ever seen. There must be another way to save money than putting four loyal and devoted workers out of a job.Do the alderman even consider that these people have families to support? Families that they miss important events in their lives to be at work because they are at work to protect this town? The 911 center does not know the people in this town nor do they care if a pet is lost, you want to sleep through the night but it is to noisy around your house or if you need to ask a question about a town ordinance which they know nothing about. They will tell you to call back when the PD is open, which will be banker hours. These desk officers know you and care about your quality of life. Please, please keep them here,we need them.

Ladies and Gentlemen, here we are in the midst of hurricane season. For all you residents who leave their homes during a hurricane. Think about this while you're staying at a hotel or with friends and family being concerned about your home. Who would serve you better? Your town's dispatchers or your county's 911. Our dispatchers who are more familiar with this beach or county 911 who are having to deal with the whole county. As a former resident of this beach, the choice is obvious, keep your dispatchers.

I do not understand why the board of alderman would want to get rid of four amazing people that have dedicated their lives to protecting this town and the officers that they work with. There has got to be another way to save money. I was told a 1 cent tax increase would bring in an extra 1.5 million dollars a year. 1 CENT!! Have the aldermen even considered that these people have families and that they have missed important events in their families lives to work to make sure this town is safe for the people that live here? NO, they want to save a few bucks and downgrade the quality of life that these people have worked so hard to provide for the residents.Do you really think that the 911 center is going to care if your pet is lost or you have people walking by your house after bar close screaming and waking you up? NO, because they do not know you and don't care. These desk officers do. How many times have you called and they know your voice and your address without you telling them? They have an officer to take care of your problem on scene within an average of two minutes no matter what the complaint because they know at that time, that is the very important to you. If the 911 center takes over this will come to a dead stop. You will not be able to call and ask about town ordinances because they don't know and will tell you to call back when the PD is open. That will be monday through friday from 9 to 5 by the way, then the door is locked and you can no longer come in and speak to someone face to face. These ladies need your support.Do not let the aldermen do this to save money. Your safety and quality of life depends on you speaking out when they have a public meeting. Please, please don't let them take away people who care about you.

It is very reassuring to make a call to the police and in 2 to 3 minutes have a police pull up to your door. Priceless service when you are in need.

NH County can do the job better because they have better equipment. The tight wads in charge arent going to spend the money to replace the 1950 era equipment, so I say let the county take it over.

We could spend the $150,000 saved on bathrooms for the public.
